Safety

by April Ardis Anderson
I saw you in my father's face the other day
When he yelled at me and pleaded that I
Believe in the christian god.
Don't you laugh
Or raise that bushy brow!
This is serious...
I came running here and embraced your soft
Velvet stomach
"A Cancer's comfort zone," spake the Zodiac.
Kisses minced with tears drowned your navel.
But why did I see you?
Your deep brown eyes in their sweetest of daydreams
Peering beyond the blunt visage of my father?
Safety, I guess, safety--
You have stolen my father's throne.
