Sculptures on Water

The flow of the river is imperceptible 
The surface, covered with eddies 
Confuse the direction of flow 
A snapshot becomes 
A temporarily sculpted texture 
Reflects light, harbours shadow 
Then flows into motion 
Birds land 
Boats pass through 
Create their own eddies 
Start in motion 
Ripples that appear 
To continue indefinitely 
And yet are absorbed by the river 
Beneath these temporary creations 
The flow of the river is imperceptible
