Selection 7 of

Estella

by Nicholas John Street
When you asked me how I felt
You probably hadn't guessed
That with one hand
I would wish to break
The proud stubborness
That locks away the
Innocent beauty inside you
And with the other
Long to hold
The shining prisoner
  to my heart

Like a jealous Queen
Your shadow hides your light,
Her flawless daughter
Hidden from the land
For fear of her pure white
Being dyed by the blackness
  of tainted men

But in so doing
She will never shine in
The myriad coloured world
And life is so much poorer
  for her absence
