Why I Am Silent

by Joanne Marisa Leow
And you wonder why I don't speak to you.
We are like two souls,
two pieces of coloured string
no longer entwined.
My soul no longer dances in the light
on the boundaries of yours.
My soul has found other souls
and curled up among their openings.

You seem
like a faraway, long-forgotten
dream,
almost transparent in your faintness,
so pale
that if I reach out and touch you,
you will disappear.

Now I am simply content
to watch you
prance like a foolish knave
along the fringes of my existence.
And the wistfulness in my heart?
That too will pass.
