Inner Wings

by Juanita DeHart
Don't judge me while my wings are tucked away
Why criticize what sight perceives I've got
Depend not on what outer form displays
For fragile, weak, and earthbound I am not

My wings when open wide can span to lengths
That carnal reasoning can't calculate
They mount to heights with supernatural strength
Impossible for minds to estimate

My wings are kept concealed to give them rest
So don't be fooled by what appears to be
Until you've seen me soaring at my best
Resist condemning my ability

Deception dwells in outward show of things
But truth abides in hidden inner wings
